get off your ass & ride 2003 - Ride It and Make a Difference!

(Chicago, IL) - May 20, 2003. Putting their everyday lives on hold, attorney Neal Levin and partner development manager Michael Compisi, both Chicago residents, will embark on an intense backcountry mountain bike adventure this August to raise awareness about wild and domestic animal welfare. Christened GOYAR 2003 (Get Off Your Ass & Ride), Levin and Compisi will take a 2500-mile ride from Canada to Mexico down the Continental Divide in hopes of bringing more people closer to the issues plaguing animals and their habitat. Levin and Compisi also are encouraging people to join them for the massive mid-ride party in Breckenridge, Colorado on September 5-7, mid-way down the route.

"Many people pursue endeavors to promote awareness of issues and cajole people into donating to certain causes, but few provide an opportunity for a hands-on experience of what they are supporting," says Neal Levin. "Our goal is to give people the up close and personal experience of the inhumane treatment of wildlife as well as agricultural and domesticated animals while taking in the beauty that is an inherent part of the journey. The overall goal is to promote change in the way we treat the animals and their habitat."

Exposure about the issues takes on many forms during the ride. While raising awareness through their own web site (goyar2003.com), Neal and Mick have recruited several partner organizations including the Humane Society of the United States, the American Society for the Prevention of the Cruelty to Animals, the City of Chicago's Animal Care and Control Commission and the City of Chicago itself whom are not only endorsing the ride and the cause, but facilitating raising awareness about animal welfare as well.

The expenses for the ride are being covered strictly through sponsorships and from the personal funds of Levin and Compisi. "We approached a number of manufacturers of top of the line equipment to support us through gear contributions which were very graciously accepted. We found many organizations very supportive of our cause. We feel that we have been outfitted with the best gear available to get us through our ride." Sponsors include Seven Cycles, Marzocchi, SRAM, Easton, GIRO, Kenda, BOB Trailers and Mountain Safety Research/Cascade Design. Higher Gear Bike Shop in Chicago has been instrumental in supporting Neal and Mick through consultation, assembly and service preparing them for the ride. Additional sponsors are welcome. People who are interested in donating money to the cause are asked to donate directly to the not-for profit Partners of their choice through the GOYAR website. . "We feel strongly about our cause and want to ensure that all donated funds go directly to our Partner organizations who each work endlessly to promote awareness of animal welfare. This way, we can ensure the greatest impact," Compisi said.

Another important Partner is the Adventure Cycling Association, which developed the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route in 1998. ACA's mission is to inspire people of all ages to travel by bicycle and explore the landscape and history of America for fitness, fun and self-discovery (www.adventurecycling.org). GOYAR will also be the special guest host of the AMBC Fall Classic being produced by MavSports, September 5-7 in Breckenridge, Colorado. MavSports is Colorado's premier mountain bike event promoter. Everyone is welcome to attend. Racers or racer wannabes can register at www.mavsports.com Fun for the kids too! Neal Levin is a principal of Neal H. Levin & Associates, a Chicago-based law firm, and the CEO of the Skan Project, which finds profitable solutions for businesses choosing to embrace sustainability and the humane treatment of animals.

Neal is also an adjunct professor at DePaul University College of Law teaching Animal Law.
Michael Compisi is a business development professional for GE Access, a division of GE He is a 1993 graduate of Yale University and a former professional soccer player with the Charleston Battery and the South Carolina Shamrocks.
Michael is also assisting Neal in the Skan Project by developing its business model.
